When the building was originally constructed in 1897, its design and layout was based upon the American Federal Architectural style, possibly a nod to the then owners close ties to America. The shape and positioning of both the windows and main door which look out on to Irish and William Streets are typical features of the Federal style.

Because of the unique design of this building to the local area it has been designated a listed building. This means that the entire external facade is as it was built in the late 19th Century......

HISTORY Experience History.......

......The Building has had a long and varied history, starting out as a home to the McGuone Family before becoming a retail outlet for wines and spirits. Then, in the mid 20th Century it was purchased by the Munster and Leinster Bank and began operating as a high street bank. The Munster and Leinster logo can still be seen above the main entrance door today. The building continued to be used as a bank by various banking companies until the 1990's when it was closed down and became vacant.

The current owner purchased the building and set about a sympathetic renovation process turning it into this hotel which officially opened for business in September 2007.

TIME CAPSULE
During renovations to the building a time capsule was discovered in what was originally the pantry or larder. The capsule had been placed in a specially made recess in the wall and then plastered over. The capsule remained undiscovered by the Munster and Lenister Bank who changed the room into a vault. In fact the capsule remained in it's secret corner until 2006, 99 years later, when Paddy Little, one of the renovation workers was chipping off the old plaster in one corner of the vault. He discovered a glass jar, the contents of which are on display on the walls of the new hotel.
